WHAT IS THE AEL?

The AEL is a four-year language programme involving two years of study away from the home university. You spend your first and fourth years at your home university and your second and third years at two different destinations abroad.

This is a great way to learn two foreign languages and familiarize yourself with the culture of your host countries.

WHAT IS MY FINAL DEGREE AFTER FOUR YEARS?

You will obtain a bachelor degree of your home university but you also get certification from your host universities. Some of these universities also award you they agree, some give you an AEL exchange certificate. Ask the AEL coordinator at your home university which type of certification you will get with your chosen language combination and your destinations.

Or check the Certification Survey yourself.

Triple certification is a big asset!

WHAT ARE THE CURRENT PARTNERS IN THE AEL PROGRAMME?

Here is a list of the partner universities, with a link to their basic AEL information or to their own AEL pages:

Université Aix-Marseille – Universiteit Gent –  Universidad de Granada  – Technische Hochschule Köln – University of Limerick – Université Toulouse Jean Jaurès – Universidad de Oviedo – Kauno Technologijos Universitetas.

Ask your local AEL coordinator which combination of universities is possible in your case. Or check it yourself in the Destinations Survey.

WHAT LANGUAGES WILL I LEARN?

You choose two (foreign) languages among the following: English, French, German, Spanish. In some cases there is an opportunity to acquire the basics of a third foreign language as well!

But the programme is broader: you also study applied subjects that will considerably increase your chances on the job market. These
could be subjects like economics and law, or translation/interpreting and/or language technology.

It is again your local AEL coordinator who will explain what choices your can make.
